There's a certain magic about staying on a private island. Located on the west coast of Scotland, the island boasts gorgeous views overlooking Loch Linnhe and the dramatic Morvern mountains beyond. Our 300 acre island offers a truly unique and memorable experience.

Highland cattle graze, badgers visit, grey seals and otters swim in the surrounding water and countless birds, including the golden eagle, can be spied soaring overhead. The hotel experience delivers unique levels of personal service, with decor blending the traditional with the contemporary. Distant islands form a stunning backdrop to Eriska’s 9 hole golf course, whilst visiting guests can enjoy a host of activities on the grounds and our spa and leisure facilities.

We offer a variety of accommodation with 16 bedrooms in the main house, 5 spa suites located in the gardens with private hot tub, 2 garden cottages with 2 bedrooms each which are ideal for families and 6 hilltop reserves located on the hilltop overlooking Loch Linnhe again with private hot tub and balconies. Finally we also have Arnott’s House our self-catering option with 3 bedrooms situated a small drive from the hotel.

The public rooms at Eriska all exude comfort and the warmth of hospitality you would expect from a house of this era and yet do not over formalise the areas.

Open fireplaces dominate the ground floor, none more so than in the hall where the fire burns constantly every day of the year. The main hall was wood paneled in 1913 with Burr Oak in an attempt to conceal the new wiring in the hotel. The Piano room is the first room entered from the front door and is light and bright as is the drawing room which has soft bright furnishing and sofas and chairs which would tempt any visitor to simply relax and set their mind at ease.

The Library has changed minimally since the turn of the century with an art deco fireplace with very risqué, in those days, figurines dressing the edges of the fireplace and a wonderful selection of whiskies, cocktails and house wines available throughout the day.   |   email enquiry   |   Location Map

Things To Know:

The Big House was built in 1884 by a branch of the Stewarts of Appin. The architect Hippolyte Blanc, was highly acclaimed not only for his meticulous attention to detail at the height of the Scottish Baronial Style, but also for a very degree of specification in materials which was a mark of his work. Amongst the major buildings in Scotland for which he was responsible are included St Cuthbert's Church and the Argyll Tower at the Castle, both in Edinburgh.

In 1973 the property was bought by the Buchanan-Smith Family who embarked on a continuous programme of refurbishment and enhancement. Eriska and the island itself has benefited so much from the advice and concern of those who have become subject to its magnetism over the years. Peace, tranquillity and comfort have remained pre-eminent aims, and are indeed the very attributes which draw people back to the island again and again. For over 4 decades the hotel grew, changed and evolved to one of the most foremost privately owned country hotels in Scotland in 2016.

In 2017 GEM brought in the award winning ICMI (Inverlochy Castle Limited International) to take over the management and running of the hotel and add Eriska to their outstanding luxury collection.
