Uig Hotel

Isle of Skye

Situated on the hill above Uig Bay, just five minutes from the ferry port, the Hotel and Lodge offer a perfect base for exploring North Skye before heading to the Outer Hebrides, the Highlands and beyond. The Fairy Glen lies in the hills behind the Hotel, while the Quiraing, Kilt Rock and the Old Man of Storr are an easy drive around the peninsula. The spectacular scenery has featured in several films, including Stardust, Macbeth, Prometheus and, most recently, Spielberg’s The BFG. The village of Uig is also home to Uig Pottery and the Isle of Skye Brewery, both with shops on site.

The Hotel has 11 warm, comfortable bedrooms, many with sea views, while the Lodge offers a further 8, all overlooking the bay. The restaurant, bar and reception are located in the main Hotel, with the Lodge rooms a short walk to the rear. Both buildings are pet friendly, with dogs welcome in the rooms and bar area. Dogs cannot be accommodated in the main dining room during breakfast; well-behaved dogs may be left in rooms, or guests can opt for an in-room breakfast instead.

The Hotel takes pride in its quality, home-cooked food, sourcing local produce wherever possible. Highland red deer and home-smoked sea trout are among the highlights. The restaurant and bar both overlook the bay, and guests can relax in the sun lounge with a local Isle of Skye ale, Isle of Skye gin or a Talisker single malt.

The surrounding area teems with wildlife: golden eagles and sea eagles can be spotted across the peninsula, while otters, seals and dolphins are regularly seen in the bay.

Things to do on Skye

On the doorstep lies the mystical Fairy Glen, where visitors can wander its miniature ridged hills and climb to the natural stone formation known as Castle Ewan. The scenery here has featured in several films, including Spielberg’s The BFG and Disney’s Stardust.

The road around the peninsula passes some of Skye’s most spectacular scenery, including the Quiraing, Kilt Rock waterfall, the dinosaur footprints at Staffin beach, and the Old Man of Storr — offering plenty of photo opportunities and great hikes along the way.

Further afield, highlights include Dunvegan Castle, the lighthouse walk at Neist Point, whisky tasting at Talisker Distillery, and the Fairy Pools beneath the Cuillin Mountains.

Getting to the Hotel

Flybe and Easyjet have flights to Inverness from Gatwick, Luton, Bristol, Birmingham and Manchester. You can then travel on by bus or car from Inverness.

  • By Bus

Citylink run buses from Inverness and Glasgow to Skye. Some of these stop in Portree and you need to get a connection; some go straight through to Uig.
